Baby fussiness and gas?
Is it normal for a 6 week old baby to be fussy and cry and have gas throughout the day and at feedings? It is not all day long, or at every feeding but some days are worse than others. For example, last night she woke every 2 hrs. to eat (which is normal) and twice she had crying spells that lasted a few min. I burp her, and change her diaper, etc. but she still cries and I can sometimes during the crying spells feel gas bubbles move through her stomach and hear her pass gas. I tried Enfamil Gentlease, and she kept spitting it up and she even refused to drink it at first. She is on regular Enfamil Lipil now. Is this a problem with her formula, or is it just that at 6 weeks her digestive system isn't matured completely & that is causing the fussiness and gas? My first baby fussed at feedings too until she got a little older.
Our 2 week old has the same problem, and we spoke with her pediatrician about it. She recommended Mylicon drops that are given at every feeding, as well as sitting the baby upright for feedings. We also use ventair bottles (from Playtex) that help reduce air bubbles, and we make sure that she gets burped at every feeding. Some days are worse than others, but everything that we try definitely helps. If it persists, it could very well be the formula that the baby eats. Good luck!
