Why do people claim to serve themselves at a buffet, then run their servers back and forth?
I went out to eat with a group of people at Golden Corral. Everything was great, but a few of the people in my group ran our server back and forth relentlessly. They would ask for one thing at a time, and did that just about the entire time we were there. When I was about to tip, one of the guys responded that we are not supposed to tip since we got our own food. I basically told him as much as he ran that poor girl, getting his own food meant nothing, and I tipped her good. I told him it's not about getting your own food. It's about the service that you receive. As far as I know they still make 2.13 an hour. Any thoughts?
Good for you! On behalf of all servers, thank you for having common sense! Yes, the poor servers at buffets still make below minimum wage. It varies by state, I live/work in Fl. and the minimum wage for servers just went to $4.19. The standard in the buffet situation is 10%. Yes, they have a little less work, but they have a lot more tables and many people are under the impression that they don't have to tip ( as you mentioned). People should keep in mind that even though they don't take your order or bring your food, they still serve you. They refill your drinks, clear your dishes, answer you questions, and clean up behind you when you leave.
