Rude or OK?..asking people to pay for their own meal?
We are having a destination wedding. The plan is to have a trolley pick us up at the hotel, take us to the ceremony site, out to dinner & then back to the hotel for cake/cocktails.
My fiances mom thinks its OK to ask everyone to pay for their own meals at the restaurant. She thinks that would save us a lot of money. (appox. 16 meals x $14 plus drinks) Also that way people could order more then the 3 option we gave them. (steak, fish & a chicken)
I think its rude to ask people to travel PLUS pay for their own meal.
What do you guys think?
We plan on paying for everything EVERYTHING that day! So no one has to drive or worry about anything. Breakfast is also covered if they stay at the hotel that morning & we are going to have a simple pizza & beer the night before.
Invites already went out & RSVPs are due next week so its not like I can change them now!
It is absolutely NOT okay to have people pay for their own food for your wedding!
Especially considering the fact that it is a destination wedding.
If you can't afford to feed your GUESTS (key word, here!!) at your destination celebration, then you don't need to have guests at all!
That is in very poor taste.
