help with aiming a scope?

i bought a beeman r2 sportsman pellet rifle at walmart last week.its the one that has a 177 and a 22 interchangable barrels.i had the scope right on the money and it was fine for a while until i tried to fine tune it and all of a sudden i cant get it right.i have the up/down dial as far down as it will go and i am still about 4or5in. short of bulleye.i havent changed barrels or anything so whats tha deal?do i need a new scope?should i exchange the gun for a different one?by the way they dont have my gun there any more so i would have to go with a crossman177 for about the same price

Hello there,

Have you checked the mounting to see if it is loose or if the scope has shifted in the mount. Not sure what kind of mounting rings (or slot) you are using, but that can be a problem If there is any play in the scope and its mount, you cannot sight it the scope. That is my first guess as to the problem. Sounds like the scope or mount has shifted. You may need to remove the scope and check the mounts. Tighten everything up and remount the scope. Then sight in the gun again.

I have never owned a laser sighting device. I do it the old fashion way. When I sight in any gun, I shot at a sheet of siding. I had a large sheet of foam siding. I staple paper over the 4x8 sheet. then I put my target on. That way, even if the gun is so far off I miss the small target, I will hit somewhere on the sheet of foam. I do not have to guess which way I missed the small target. You could substitute a large section of cardboard cut from something like an appliance box. But that does not last long and cannot be left out in the rain. The foam sheet can be left out on your shooting range. Although I reuse the foam sheet several times, I use a fresh covering of paper each time I sight in a gun. No holes in the paper. That way I know the hole in the paper came from this gun I am sighting n.
