opinions on standard Schnauzer and agility?
I have been thinking of adding a standard schnauzer to my family and I have read the breed info.and I am still interested. I do agility with my scottie and would like to do it with the new dog also. I was looking for opinions from folks on who've run their standards in agility. How would you compare this dog to say a soft-coated wheaten or even a border collie in train-ability, and general personality as it pertains to agility? Or any thoughts along this line you have that you think would enlighten me I would appreciate. Also, I will go through the rescue process, what would you recommend I look for as far as the temperament for this purpose. Thanks, and Yes I do understand that standards are not common dogs and I will have a good wait before one becomes available through adoption.
I don't know many Standards doing agility, but that doesn't mean you can't, especially if you keep expectations realistic. All of the breeds you mention have very straight fronts, which makes jumping more difficult, and also makes doing a 2o/2o contact behavior harder on the dog.
Sue Ailsby used to be into Standards, and she does a bit of agility in Canada. She also has a fabulous training website and e-book at www.dragonflyllama.com
