How do you stop your skin from having that terrible burning sensation after handling spicy hot peppers?
Normally, if I know that I'm going to handle spicy hot peppers while preparing food, I use gloves or a plastic baggie to protect my hands so that the juices and oils don't soak into my skin and cause a burning sensation for hours. However, yesterday, I was cutting up what I thought was mild green chilies, but within an hour I could feel my skin begin to burn and I knew I was in trouble. I went to the Yahoo!Health site and followed the suggestions the MD offered, which was to wash my hands & soak them in vegetable oil for at least an hour. I soaked for 2 hrs and it was every bit as bad. I found other solutions and tried soaking in vinegar, rubbing my hands with cut limes, putting ice into baggies and keeping my hands in contact with the numbing cold. Finally, at 1:00 a.m. I went to the drug store and purchased a sun burn relief aloe vera solution with lidocaine and menthol, that provided minor relief. The pain is finally gone now, but was there anything I could've done? Thanks.
i think it's rather unusual to have this extended of a reaction to peppers on the skin, you might be developing an allergy to them, so I think you should always use gloves whenever you are touching peppers, and keep some benedryl on hand so if you eat them and start to have a reaction you can nip it.

i know that bread or crackers neutralizes the burning sensation in the mouth, maybe you could try a paste of flour and water and put your hands in it, if this happens again. i would try that...
