My Betta's fins were nipped at by my female, what should I do?
I live in a college dorm and have two Betta's, one male, one female. They live in the "same" tank but are/were divided by an acrylic divider. Over the weekend, my female jumped over the divider and bit at my male's fins and now they are very torn looking. I'm heart broken but he's alive and I want him to stay that way! I've moved him into a different tank from the female and intend to keep them separated permanently. Please, any help you can give is greatly appreciated. I love my baby Menthu (the male) and don't want him to die!
Did you see the whole thing?I mean when the betta female jumoed over and got his fins nipped?If you didnt ,they probably mated too,and if that happened,then youre in for a trip!One way you can tell they have mated is if you see vertical stripes of the females belly and that means she's ready to hatch some babies.I suggest you research on breeding bettas cuz it's too long a list the things i msut recommend to breed them.
Acrylic dividers are not only stressful to your betta[knowing that your male betta sees another betta in the tank and is contanstly aggravated!Dont believe me?Go to bettatalk.com]but they have an affinity to jump anyhow so im not suprised the female jumped over to the other side!Bettas are natural jumpers!
Dont worry,he wont die,as long as the fins werent closely nipped to his body.If they were,he will probably get fin rot and I suggest to you RIGHT NOW AT THIS MOMENT to get a treatment for fin rot and treat him with it just in case.Feed him yummy food so he can condition himself like bloodworms,too!
