How many ounces can a large martini glass hold?
I've graduated from a bartending school. I'm being trained in a Japanese restaurant, but I realized that everything is so different from the bartending school. The martini glasses are like double larger than the regular one. I'm feeling not being trained right. I was so confused at the bar. It really made me look so dumb. They don't even have the correct measurement & recipes. I really don't wanna follow their way. Can I use my knowledge from school or the internet? Please help!!!
I would use the knowledge from school as well as what you find on the internet. Don't feel dumb you were just nervous and lacked experience. The drink should always use the same amount of liquor that the recipe calls for no matter the size of the glass, unless you are asked to add more or to double it.
Find you some recipes that you are comfortable with and make them your own. Take the recipes from the restaurant and incorporate them with your knowledge from school and what you find else where. The key is to be confident in the drink that you are making and find your own system in preparing them.
The measurements that the restaurant have may be either to fit there liquor budget or the size of there glasses. I would make the drink the way i learned it and know how and their way and compare them before choosing not to go along with their recipe. If possible have some one judge it for you.
Bar tending can be an art like cooking or baking, it is up to you to create the perfect drink within the boundaries that your employer has set. Be open minded and willing to learn new ways if you don't understand why they do it that way ask. If you strive to be the best at what you do than you can become an asset where ever you work and the clientele will come to you or follow you when you move on. Making you a valuable employee for any establishment.
