What is at the root of someone's mind if they believe they need to care more for other's than themselves?
I know often people grow up in religions that have taught then to love others more than themselves.. this is co-dependent behavior & how can a person get out of this pattern of caring for others & take that energy & do what they need to do to solve their own problems, set their own goals & live their best life no matter what others are doing or not doing.
I have a different take on the "Love thy neighbor as thyself" thing...in that one cannot love anyone without first being able to love themselves. I don't think this is a "do" or a commandment as much as it is a principle of Truth: One is only able to give GENUINE love to others if there is a GENUINE love for one's own self within. This also ties into the "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" concept that would answer your question, because if one's own self-image is set to a negative, then that person would try to compensate by ingratiating themselves (care more for others) in order to seek a sense of balance. If you meditate to a positive sense of self, you then RADIATE positive energies in all you do. If, on the other hand, you have repressed insecurities, fears, self-loathing, or guilt, you radiate those negatives and, to camouflage or "buy favors" from those whose approval you seek but are secretly convinced you aren't "worthy" of that which you seek, you dutifully become self-effacing and put yourself last, almost like an injured pup cowering so that the other dogs won't attack.
