is my boss doing us wrong?
I work at a seafood restaurant and i have a financial question about something the owner is doing to see if it is illegal. Recently the owner of the restaurant (my boss) has gotten a new computer system. He has explained to us that when a customer pays with a credit card he has to pay for that swipe to process. He said since he has been paying for this for so many years that its our turn to pay. At the end of the night all of us waitresses have a server report that we have to print to claim and what not. Well, if we have customers that pay with their credit card and left a tip on the card, our boss takes the cost of each credit card swipe that cost to be processed and is deducted from the tip that they left us. So pretty much, we are paying for his processing fees, IS THIS ILLEGAL????
