My baby just started on solids and I wanted to get an idea of how much to feed her?
My baby (about 5 months old) just started on solids. I know it is a little early, but her pediatrician recommended it because she has a hard time keeping the formula down.
Anyway - tonight, I fed her sweet potatoes and she woofed down 1 1/2 "jars" of it. It isn't a jar, but a little plastic rectangle container that Gerber makes. Each little jar is 2.5 oz - so she ate almost 4 oz. of food. I thought that was wayyyy too much, as the first few times I fed her, I only gave her 1/2 of one little jar - so more like 1.25 oz. She was crying so hard for more - I finally stopped her. Is this normal when a baby first starts eating? I don't know if she liked it that much or what. I am feeding her cereal in the morning (2 oz) and then bottles the rest of the day, and then the "small" meal for dinner at night. I just thought it was crazy that she ate that much!
my daughter is 5 1/2 months old. And no, it isn't too early but what I do is use a divided bowl and I use jar foods (the ones I use are Nature's Goodness brand, 2.5 oz. The Gerber plastic containers are also 2.5 oz each). I use half a jar for fruit & veggie. As far as cereal I sprinkle some in and mix it with water til it looks to be the same amount as the fruit or veggie in the other side.
4 oz does seem a little much. That is what I do though. I wish you luck.
