Quality of a DVD made with Vegas Pro 8.0?
I'm making a slideshow with music and pictures for my mom for Mother's Day. I planned on making it on Vegas Pro 8.0 but when I preview it on full screen, it looks really bad.
When I burn it to a DVD, will it look like that on tv or is it better quality when you burn it?
Well, the dvd burning process will have no affect on making it better. If you want to make it better, here is what will help:
Open the photos in Photoshop or The Gimp, then increase their size to at least 740 X 480 (if you are going to watch this on a non HD tv). If you have small pictures, they will get all pixelated in a video editing program if they are scaled up by the program. Its best to do it in a photo editor.
Also, when you export your video out of Vegas, make sure you are compressing it as little as possible. The less compression, the better. And since you are doing a fairly simple video, it should not be an issue to leave it fairly uncompressed... unless you are doing a three hour video of music and pictures.
Thirdly, export as an MOV format video, if you can. Despite having 'pro' in its name, that doesn't mean that Vegas is actually a pro level program. It is really pretty consumer level actually. Some 'professional' wedding video makers use it... but it is not really respected by anyone above that level. Final Cut, Avid, and even Premiere are more what the professionals use. Thus, it may not be able to export into anything other than Windows AVI or WMV format, which is inferior in quality compared to MOV or MPEG. If you can export into MOV or MPEG, you will get a better quality overall.
