Who is responsible for mishap?
We recently purchased a boat, and towed it to a nearby lake. While driving home, we hear loud noise and went to check it out. The wheel was about to fall off. We were in a very dangerous situation, it was 9:30 at nite, and we were in a s curve. I called the police to come out before we had a deadly situation. We finally found a towing serv ice, and needless to say, it was a nailbiting experience. Come to find out, the place we purchasesd the boat from, never tightened lug nuts, on either side. I was just wondering if they should be held accountable. I have never walked around a car after purchasing to check lugnuts.
Yeah, they goofed up.
Bottom line: you are responsible for the lugnuts on the trailer and the tow vehicle. They won't take responsibility once you have driven that trailer off the lot. They will claim, "well, we didn't know what he did with it." Or, and this is the most popular, "we tightened the lugnuts and you can't prove otherwise."
Sorry, tough lesson to learn, but diligence is a part of boating.
