I make rap music. I want to sign a record deal. Is there a easy way i can sign a Record Deal?
well me and my friend make great rap music and we are hoping to sign a record deal one day. but thats not working out so good. is there a easy way i can get to sign a record deal.
You make great music? That's very subjective.
And in order to 'sign a record deal', someone has to offer you a deal/contract to sign in the first place. It doesn't matter what you want; its down to what the record labels want, whether you fit what they want, and whether they can find you in the first place.
So three things to do...
1. Improve...
You may think you're great at the moment, but that's just your opinion and chances are you aren't. Even if you are good, what makes you stand out from the thousands of other acts out there that would be equally worthy of a big break? Do you offer anything that thousands of other artists don't? There are hundreds of millions of great musicians out there, but only a select few get noticed.
2. Promote to labels passively...
Build up an internet presence (website, myspace, etc). Release some demos / EPs / singles, etc. Sell on iTunes. Offer some music for free download. Build up a large fanbase. Most record labels won't even talk to an artist before they have a large following of at least a few thousand people.
3. Promote to labels actively...
Write to record labels and send them demo CDs, etc. In your letters highlight what you have managed in step 2. Point out that you have built up this large fanbase of your own accord and have possibly made profit already independently, and that with their help, expertise and promotion both you and them could reach a lot more people and make a lot more money.
Basically, don't put your hopes on it. Don't quit your day job.
