how to get nice settings for ripping dvd?
what do i have to do if i want to rip a dvd to avi format but still making the picture quality clear(not as clear as dvd)?what are the necessary settings?i have a dvd ripper but i'm not good at setting the screen size pan scan, letterbox or whatever...can some one give me a few guidelines in order to get a good ripped dvd?...
Tyr handbrake, it is a very simple program and can easily convert you dvd once you have ripped it to your computer. Use either the xvid codec or h264. h264 takes longer but produces slighty better quality. it is not yet compatible with everything though, but can play in vlc fine. Click on video settings tab, in here is where you put the file size and also check 2nd pass and uncheck turbo 1st pass. If the movie is the average hour and 30 minutes then a burn of 700MB should be fine, but you wont be able to keep the 5.1 and will have to choose mp3 or AC3 audio of around 160kbs (under the audio tab). As for the resolution at 700MB, anything between 550 and 650 for the width should do fine, enter this in width/height (if you already have .avi movies on your computer check their resolutions and sizes for a reference to size and quality). Burning 1.37GB movies are a lot better IMO since you can keep the orignal audio and the size can be 640 or higher, for movies of 2 hours or more i recommend this. Now click 'encode video' and sit back for a few hours. Your computer will probably be running at 100% for the entire time so make sure it can get enough air and stay cool.
