Has anyone ever been told not to use Orajel?
My public health visitor was just here and my son is teething and i told her that i had given him some tylenol and a wee bit of orajel(even though neither seem to be working) and she comes out with "O no! You cant use that its dangerous." And goes on to tell me that babies have suffocated cause their airways can become numb if they swallow it or choke if they eat after having it.
So has anyone heard about this before?
Do you use orajel or any other numbing agent(Supposedly its all bad she says.)?
Any problems using it?

Thanks for all the answers ladies...I wont be using it anymore either cause it doesnt even seem to work but i never thought a baby could like choke on themselves from it and thought it prudent to share.
I have never been told that.
I only used it once, and my son screamed until it wore off. I felt so bad because it was bothering him more then the teething pain itself, and I never used it since.
If I were told that by my doctor, I would be terrified to ever use it again. I personally have found for my son though, that a teething ring or something rubbery to chew on, and a little tylenol for bad teething, can be extremely affective. As well as distraction, when my son was teething bad, we got out of the house, went and visited people or went shopping. The distraction helped lessen the pain. Then come night time, he was so pooped out from a day out and about that he just went to sleep and sleep through the pain.
